The Port
Friday, November 21st, 2008
Just got home from the hospital. Had the port put in. It took a lot longer than I expected. When I had asked, they told me the procedure takes less than 90 minutes and that’s true but what they didn’t include in that figure is the time it takes to register (twice), [...]

Pie for Dinner?
Friday, November 21st, 2008
I spend lots of time looking through the King Arthur Flour catalog, and also on their
website. I placed an order for some baking supplies the other day, and browsed through their recipes. This is a brunch dish, but I thought it sounded great for dinner! The recipe is straight forward. Make dough for crust and topping. [...]

Muga Test
Thursday, November 20th, 2008
So you know what’s missing from all this cancer talk? Pictures! I think I need to start taking them to go along with what’s happening. Anyway, today I had a Muga test, which basically is images of my heart. They weren’t looking for anything wrong, just a baseline for comparison to [...]

Persimmon Ice Cream and Cake
Thursday, November 20th, 2008
I LOVE persimmons! I am lucky to know someone with a huge persimmon tree who gives me persimmon pulp to freeze each year around the holidays. I realized I still had two tubs from last year in my freezer. It was time to use them to hopefully, make room for more! Since we began making [...]

Avastin (aka Bevacizumab) - Miracle Drug or Colossal Flop?
Thursday, November 20th, 2008
I swear I’m going to be able to go to medical school after I get done with this (well, assuming that I can get over the nausea that the sight of blood gives me - I should be a dream patient, huh?). Anyway, my heads a bit swimming, and I have to head [...]

Turkey Meatloaf with Bacon and Swiss
Wednesday, November 19th, 2008
The last time I cooked a Thanksgiving turkey was in 1988. Why change that now? We will be in Las Vegas next week, and I have NEVER ordered a turkey entree in a restaurant. We eat deli turkey sandwiches on occasion, and I have probably cooked a turkey breast or two since then. We have [...]

Random Happenings from the Cancer Corner
Wednesday, November 19th, 2008
First, thanks all for the thoughts and insight on the Avastin trial. I picked up some information from the doc’s office yesterday that I need to get through that today in addition to all the links and articles people have sent. I do appreciate it. I’m going to sit down this morning, [...]

Sunday: Half Moon Bay
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
Our Bay are weekend continued the glorious weather. We had a lazy morning with good coffee, and then took a drive to Pescadero for lunch at Duartes Tavern. They are famous for their seafood, artichoke or cream of green chili soup, and home-baked pies.
No visit to Duartes would be complete without a taste of the [...] -
